Helping Women Receives $57,000 Capital
Expenditure Grant from the Department of
Community Affairs, Division on Women
Metuchen, New Jersey -- Women Helping
Women, a non-profit counseling center
for Central Jersey women and girls,
recently received a $57,000 Women’s
Shelter Capital Expenditure Grant from
the New Jersey Division on Women, for
capital improvements to its Metuchen
facility.
“We are so pleased to have been chosen
by the Division on Women for support
from this program. This grant will make
all the difference in the world in
providing the increased level of service
New Jersey women and girls need from our
agency,” said Executive Director,
Melissa Higgins.
The 32 year old Metuchen agency has
grown dramatically during the last five
years due to an ever-increasing need for
its services. The non-profit began
construction in 2006 on a three-story
addition to its existing building that
will be completed in September, 2007.
The grant from the Division on Women
will fund a portion of the technology
and furnishings needed for this new
addition.
Since 1975, Women Helping Women has
provided affordable therapy and support
services for thousands of women and
girls dealing with domestic violence,
sexual abuse, depression, substance
abuse, self-esteem, death of a loved-one
and many other challenges.
Women, teens and girls receive support
through individual therapy,
group therapy, peer-facilitated support
groups, WHW's telephone Helpline, a
Family Law Legal Clinic, and its wide
variety of community education programs.
Most recently Women Helping Women
introduced the Strong Girls program in
local schools to teach girls and faculty
how to cope with emerging societal
problems like bullying and self-image.
